THE STORY :
The whole idea of Circus came along, as they often do, born of necessity. When we had our first daughter we wanted a comfortable place to go outside our own home that we could take our young child to that felt relaxing and welcoming for all of us, not just child focused nor adult centric. A place that had quality healthy food options and where kids could have fun, be engaged and we as parents could feel good about it. When we had our second daughter and that sense of need rose again thats when we set about creating Circus.
We have since learnt of course that we weren't the first with such an idea; there are amazing 'Play Cafes' (as they have come to be called) all around the world. In countries such as Australia and Japan they are very much part of everyday life. The States has many in differing sizes and focuses. But with Circus our aim has been to create a space for the community that is fun, engaging and enriching for both children and adults alike. Where both parents and their kids can meet up, relax and learn.
In addition to the Playspace and Cafe it was important to us to also provide supporting activities, so we have various classes for kids that we add to all the time. At the moment we hold art and music classes, but they will be expanding to dance, cooking, baby signing, kids yoga, even gardening. In the evenings we also have parenting workshops and specific parenting concern events. We are all very lucky to have such great quality instructors and facilitators here in Vancouver and Circus is very much about supporting and offering access to their experience.
Circus is certainly a labour of love, and we are personally there most of the time as we strive to make Circus better and richer, so come say hi and join the Circus : )
